Al Nahda National School for Girls

Founded in 1983, Al Nahda National School for Girls is a private English medium school located in Abu Dhabi offering both American and British Programs and catering for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The School is co-educational up to Grade 3 after which boys move to the Boys School campus. There are currently 3,576 students enrolled (ages 4 to 18 years old). Al Nahda National School for Girls is under the jurisdiction of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) and the UAE Ministry of Education. The Girls School campus is divided into two schools: the Primary School (KG - Grade 6) and the Secondary School (Grades 7-12).

Established in 1983, our school boasts more than 3 decades of a prominent and leading educational role in the region.
At ANNSG we offer a well-rounded, high quality education which prepares our students to be lifelong and independent learners, critical thinkers, and global citizens.
We are proud to be one of the few schools in Abu Dhabi that offers global standards for education through both British and American Curricula. We encourage our students to take full advantage of these enriched programs. The American curriculum at ANNSG is aligned with Common Core Standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics; New Generation Standards in Science; and the Ministry of Education Standards for Arabic, Islamic Studies and Social Studies. The British curriculum is aligned with Cambridge International Curriculum.
Our commitment to deliver high quality learning implies that we equip our students not only to excel at formal education but also to be ready to conquer and challenge this dynamic world and to be ready to pursue their studies in the top universities in the world. Our competent and experienced teachers are one of the many strengths at ANNSG. Meet the Team
Amy Louise Simmons
Vice Principal / Head of Secondary
Amy Simmons graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of South Carolina in June 1990 followed by a Master in Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University in 1991. Amy also earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Southern Queensland in 2002, and proceeded with a Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership from Zayed University, U.A.E. in 2015.
After 2 years at Al Worood Academy, Amy joined Al Nahda and taught Mathematics and Accountings from 1994 to 2006 and served as the Humanities Coordinator from 1998 and Guidance Counselor from 1999. In 2006, she was designated as Superintendent of Grades 7-12 and then as Vice Principal from 2007 to 2009. Amy served as the Principal from 2009 to 2013 and then later as Executive Director of Academic Affairs.
From 2017 to 2019 Amy served as the Vice Principal of ICS – Mushrif. In August 2019 Amy rejoined Al Nahda National School for Girls as the Vice Principal.

Kathleen DesCarie
Head of Primary
Kathleen DesCarie holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Acadia University, Nova Scotia, Canada and Bachelor of Education with specialization in Teaching English from the University of Prince Edward Island, PEI, Canada.
Kathleen has enjoyed being an international educator for 25 years. She taught a variety of subjects in primary and middle school levels over the course of 17 years. Roles in middle management such as dean, curriculum coordinator and many years as head of department, have paved the way towards more senior leadership roles for kindergarten to grade 6.
In 2022, Kathleen was pleased to be appointed Head of Primary for Al Nahda National School for Girls and feels privileged to join such a wonderful school community.

Hassan Sobhie
Academic Advisor - Grades 11-12
Hassan Mounib Subhie graduated with a Bachelor of Science, with a major in Chemistry from the Lebanese University in Lebanon followed by a Graduate Diploma in Education from Abu Dhabi University.
Hassan Subhie began teaching Science, Math and Chemistry in Alworood School and was a Science and Math teacher prior to taking on the Academic Advisor role. He also worked as a Chemistry coordinator at AlRawafed, ADNOC and Ajyal Schools.
Hassan Subhie joined Al Nahda School in the year of 2018, and most recently was appointed as a Chemistry Lead teacher for grades 7 to 12, as an Academic Advisor for grades 11 and 12 and as the AP coordinator.

Sawsan Khalil
Academic Advisor - Grades 7-8
Sawsan Salah Khalil graduated with a Bachelor of Science, with a major in Microbiology, from Kuwait University in Kuwait followed by a Diploma in Education and Educational Psychology.
Sawsan began teaching Biology in Lebanese Fraternity School in Lebanon and was a Biology teacher prior to taking on Academic Advisor. She also worked as Math and Science Coordinator grade 1-6.
Sawsan Khalil joined Al Nahda School in the year of 2000, and most recently was appointed as Academic Advisor Grade 7-8.

Afrah Ahmed
Head of Section - KG - Grade 2
Ms. Afrah Ali Mahmoud Ahmed graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Business Management, from Helwan University in Egypt year 1882.
Ms. Afrah began teaching Kg2 Arabic & Islamic in Al Nahda School in 1883 and was a teacher prior to taking on the Head of section role. She also worked as an Arabic Coordinator and was the author and an editor of the Kg Arabic and Islamic Books.
Ms. Afrah joined Al Nahda School in the year of 1883, and most recently was appointed as the Head of Section of KG- Grade 2 dept.

Elham Mahdy
Academic Advisor - Grade 3 - 6
Elham Kamal H. Mahdy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, with a major in English, from Helwan University in Egypt followed by a Diploma in Education and a Master Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Leicester in UK.
Elham began teaching English in Sherwood Academy and the Australian School of Abu Dhabi and was a Team Leader and Management Coordinator in the primary Section before joining Al Nahda School for Girls.
Elham joined Al Nahda School in the year of 2015, and most recently was appointed as Grade 3-6 Academic Advisor.

Farhana Rasool
Academic Advisor - Grade 1 - 2
EMs Farhana Rasool graduated with a Bachelor of Education with a major in Senior Primary Education from the Transvaal College of Education in Laudium, South Africa.
Ms Farhana has a total of more or less 25 years of teaching experience. She began teaching English, Afrikaans and History in 1996 at Greyville Primary School for 6 years in South Africa prior to moving to the UAE. While in UAE, she taught Grade 6 and was also the Co- ordinator for Grades 4-6 English and Social Studies at ANS for 10 years. Thereafter, she worked at a Government school as a class teacher for Grade 1 and Grade 3. During her 8 years working at ADEK, she also gained experience as a Head of Faculty (HOF) for Grades 1-5.
Ms Farhana rejoined Al Nahda National Girls School in the Academic Year of 2019-2020 as a Lead Teacher for Grades 1-2, and was most recently appointed as an Academic Advisor for Grades 1-2.
Simona Gavrila
Academic Advisor - KG
Simona Valeria Gavrila (Niscu) graduated the “National Pedagogical College – Constanta” in 2002 with a ‘Kindergarten and Primary Teaching Degree’. In 2007, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, with a major in ‘Psychology and Educational Sciences’, from “Ovidius” University - Constanta in Romania, followed by another ‘Teaching Diploma’, a Master’s Degree in ‘Communication Management and Human Resources’ (2009) and a 4-year Post Graduate training in ‘Family, Couple and Child Psychotherapy’.
She began teaching in Kindergarten and Primary section in 2002, in different government and private schools in Romania. She worked as a Kindergarten and Primary teacher before taking the Lead Teacher role back in her home country.
In the UAE, Simona began teaching the Primary Guided Reading Programme in Al Nahda National School and was a Primary and Kindergarten teacher prior to taking on English Lead Teacher role.
She joined Al Nahda School in January 2015 and most recently was appointed as KG1-2 Academic Advisor.
